We take pride in the superb horses that we have bred for our Riding School. We breed for temperament, trainability, tolerance, and great conformation to ensure a comfortable ride. Our large school horse population ensures that our equine friends are not overworked, and therefore remain happy and looking forward to their lessons. Horse welfare is paramount here at Tathren; and these are the values that we wish to instil in our pupils.
Our property has excellent facilities for both Horse and Rider.
We have a 20m x 60m indoor arena to protect our pupils and horses from the weather elements. It provides wonderful shade from the sun, and also allows Lessons to continue if raining. The surface is a mixture of river sand and Treadlite rubber, and the addition of sprinklers provides a dust free, learning environment.
We also have an 18m rubber lined round yard, large grass riding areas, on-site trails, covered wash bay with hot water, large stable complex with a roomy breezeway for preparing horses for lessons, toilet, seated spectator’s area, float parking with turning circle, and a car park.
The horses here at Tathren are well looked after and maintained. Catherine’s husband is an equine veterinarian. Dr Tony Drew from Hawkesbury Equine Veterinary Centre who can regularly be seen at Tathren providing dental care, or annual vaccinations or reproductive work to create the beautiful Tathren foals each year.
Our horses are also regularly seen by the farrier, equine chiropractor and body worker.
All our horses are Hendra vaccinated, both for their health, and our pupils.
We know that pupils get the most from their lessons when they are comfortable. We have a three tiered mounting block to assist pupils with getting on the horse. Our saddles are very comfortable with deep seats, adjustable Velcro kneepads, and a strap handle. We also have insect repellent on hand, if needed.
We encourage our pupils to bring a water bottle to their lessons, and we have chilled drinking water in the tackroom for refills.
Here at Tathren stud and Riding School, we don’t just want to produce competent riders; we want to create excellent all round horse people.
We offer our pupils the chance to improve their horse skills, both in and out of the saddle.
Our VIP volunteer program allows pupils, 10 years and over to immerse themselves behind the scenes of a busy stud and riding school.
VIP Volunteers will learn how to handle horses on the ground; catching, leading and grooming them, saddling and bridling them, washing, rugging, and feeding them etc
Compete with other pupils on our school horses. We offer competitions for riders of all levels, from beginner to advanced. Compete in show jumping, dressage, and more.
